The Indian Queen is a 17th century semi-opera by Henry Purcell. Based on the homonymous play of Sir Robert Howard and John Dryden it evokes a fantastic and allegorical America, some years before the Spanish Conquest. In 2013 the American director Peter Sellars recreated the play with a new dramatic structure, a new libretto and different characters recounting about the arrival of the Spanish to Central America. The Indian Queen, Terra Firma is based on both Purcell’s opera and Sellar’s version. The production aims to recover the historical memory of what happened with the natives during the Conquest.
