John Freedman

John Freedman has translated 80 Russian plays, which have been performed in England, the U.S., Canada, Australia and South Africa. His play “Dancing, Not Dead” won The Internationalists new play competition in 2011, and his short play “Five Funny Tales from Buenos Aires” was an entry in the 2013 Long Distance Affair skype project produced by Pop Up Theatrics (NY). With Jennifer Johnson and the Double Edge Theatre company he co-authored “The Firebird” in 2010. He has written and/or edited 11 books on Russian themes, and is currently Assistant to the Artistic Director at Moscow’s Stanislavsky Electrotheatre. Born and educated in the United States (Harvard PhD ’90 in Russian Literature), he lived in Moscow from 1988 to 2018. He currently resides on the island of Crete.
