Gogol, F. Kafka

Directed by Natalia Shurganova, Dmitri Popov, Polina Zolotovitskaya

Metamorphosis (Gogol and Kafka) emerged from several students’ directing experimentation based on the works of N. Gogol and F. Kafka.

Nearly acentury divides the writings of Kafka and Gogol but their prose is connected by an anxious feeling of the bizarre and enigmatic other world’s presence, a world where the absurd provokes our perceptions.

Based on Gogol’s stories Viy, Ivan Fyodorovich Shponka and His Aunt, the satirical play Inspector General, Kafka’s The Metamorphosis and The Castle, the three directors explore the nature of the phantasmagorical metamorphosis within the art of both authors.
